Speech 2 outline
Problem: The police presence in the bars in the downtown district of Iowa City has increased drastically as compared to last year. But is the greater police presence helping students? The police presence in the bars only scares underage people to leave the bars. The likelihood that they will continue to drink a private setting in strong. This poses a threat the individuals health. Drinking in a public space, like the bars enables bartenders, bouncers and security to help if someone is too intoxicated. Drinking in a private setting leaves more room for risk.
Solution: Reduce the amount of cops going to bars to write tickets and increase the amount of cops going to keep people safe. I understand that drinking underage and being the bars past 10 is illegal, but at people at the bars are college students are going to drink regardless of its at the bars to in a private setting. at least if they are at the bars, there are people there that can help keep them staff. When he police do come to the bars, their motive should not be to write people tickets, it should to keep people safe.
Justification: If the cops were focused on keeping people safe, obviously the number of tickets would go down, but the number of people admitted to the hospital would also decrease as they are in public and can receive help from the staff of the bars. It would also reduce risking drinking were everyone is intoxicated. It would create a safer environment where people can help other who are too intoxicated.

Major Speech 2
This assignment asks us to find an issue and then suggest a way to solve it. We are making an argument as to why this is a problem and trying to persuade the audience to agree with us. We will use a visual aide to help persuade the audience to understand why there is an issue. We have access to so many resources to justify the solution to the problem.
Questions
1. Is there a certain number of resources you would like us to use?
2. What should the visual aides consist of?

Intro and method
IMRaD Paper
Introduction
People are admitted to the hospital everyday for a variety of reasons. Many people have one goal; to improve their health. This causes patients to make a lot of exceptions when it comes to how they are treated by the staff. When I say treated, I mean by the way the staff and patient interacted. A survey was conducted to show results of how people felt they were treated by the staff based on their reason for admission. Not much research has been done to find a correlation between reason for admission and interaction with the staff, so I was curious to see what the results would show. It is obvious that when people are admitted for very serious illness, they may be treated differently. This study focuses on people who were admitted for a short period of time.
Method
Participants
The research found was based on a survey that was sent to students at The University of Iowa. This included males and females between the ages of 18-22 to obtain a wide variety of data.
Procedure
To obtain the research required, a survey was sent out to students at The University of Iowa. They were asked five questions about their last experience at a hospital. Some of the questions include why they were at the hospital, how long they were there for, and if they felt like they were treated properly.

Survey Questions
What caused you to seek medical attention? Who did you first interact with once admitted? How long were you admitted? Do you feel as though you were properly treated? Would you recommend your caretaker to a friend?

Topic Proposal
For this writing assignment, I am going to analyze how nurses and other caretakers treat patients based on a number of qualities. I chose this topic because I plan to enter a field where I work close with patients. Seeing how other people interact with patients. To write this paper, I am going to to ask two questions: why do you think caretakers treat patients differently from one another? And, what do you think can be done to prevent this? To answer these questions, I am going to survey people about their experiences in hospitals and things they've observed.

IMRaD paper
The main difference between IMRaD papers and the papers we write in class is the way the information in the paper is presented. In argument papers, the author presents a claim or thesis then backs that up with evidence in different paragraphs. In IMRaD papers, the author is analyzing an experiment. The author summarizes the experiment in an abstract then presents the information in a clear organized fashion. These papers aren't claiming anything, just presenting the information.

Speech #1 outline
- Purpose
- To inform the audience of the new Kia Niro and for Kia to get there name out there more
- How: through humor and celebrity endorsement
- Humor: made it humours by making common ideas funny
- Shows Melissa McCarthy trying to be eco friendly in a humorous way
- Relatable because a lot people would like to be eco friendly
- Celebrity endorsement: used a funny and unproblematic actress to portray the issues
- Effectiveness
- I would say it wasn't all the effective at selling you the product because it didn’t inform the audience that well of what they are selling
- I do think that they made the brand more recognizable through its humor, but it didn't give that much information on the product itself

This commercial in from the 2017 super bowl. In this commercial, Melissa McCarthy can be seen helping with a lot of known economical issues. I think the purpose of this commercial was to make the new Kia more recognizable. It was shown in the super bowl, so a wide variety of people saw this commercial, however, I think the audience is young adults who are looking to buy a car. It is obvious that there are many issues in our economy and this commercial shows the audience some of the problems in a humous way by using Melissa McCarthy. I think by pairing a serious topic with a humors appeal, it makes the commercial work. I think this commercial was effective because it is easy to remember and it talks enough about the car to make people curious, but left out enough that people would have to do more research.

Sources for paper
1. https://medicine.uiowa.edu/pediatrics/divisions/hematology-oncology
This source is used to inform readers of what the University of Iowa's pediatric hematology and oncology can do. The author, Yatin M. Vyas, MD, is the division director who oversees all things in the pediatric hematology and oncology units. He is a reliable source as he has gone through much schooling. I can use this source to introduce my interest in pediatric oncology, and even better, its from the University of Iowa.
2. https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1002/%28SICI%291097-0142%2819960915%2978%3A6%3C1333%3A%3AAID-CNCR24%3E3.0.CO%3B2-0
This source talks about how cancer effects the day to day life of children with cancer. This source will be helpful when I talk about how pediatricians handle upsetting situations when working with patients. This journal is written by many authors who are experts in their field.
3. http://pediatrics.aappublications.org/content/early/2010/03/29/peds.2008-3429.short
This source is written in APA format. It is an informative piece that explains the lives of the children involved in oncology research. This source will be helpful to explain the patients experience and the decisions they have to make. This journal was published by the American Cancer Society, which we know is a reliable source.

Assignment 1: Analytical Report
Assignment 1: Analytical Report
The purpose of the analytical report is to familiarize oneself with the type of writing one will do in their field. For example, many science papers are written in APA format, rather than english papers written in MLA. This project will help when writing a paper in ones field. I am a health and human physiology major and have yet to write a paper in in APA, which i know is the proper way to write a paper in this field. This paper will also help me with my interviewing skills as we need to interview a person in our field of study. This will also help me with my research skills, as we need to find 3 academic sources and 3 that are not. Overall, I think this paper is going to give me a general idea of how I will write papers in the future.
1. How long should the interview be?
2. What is considered an academic source?
3. How in depth should the interview be?
